Citrosol organizes in Almeria a conference on technological innovation and food safety in the washing of fruits and vegetables.

The meeting will bring together experts from the fruit and vegetable sector to discuss new technologies that improve food safety and shelf life in fresh and fresh-cut fruits and vegetables.

The Valencian company Citrosol, an international benchmark in technological solutions for the postharvest of fruits and vegetables, will hold next Thursday, November 13, 2025 the symposium "Postharvest and technological innovation: improving food safety and shelf life in fresh fruits and vegetables and IV Range".

The event, which is free to attend but requires prior registration, will be held at the TECNOVA Technology Center facilities, located in the Almeria Technology Park, from 10:00 to 14:00 hours, and will be attended by experts from the scientific, technological and business fields.

The conference is aimed at fruit and vegetable companies in Almeria and surroundings, technicians of fruit and vegetable plants, exporters, fresh-cut companies and all those interested in learning about the latest advances in hygienic washing, technological innovation and sustainability applied to postharvest.

A meeting to share knowledge and drive innovation

The program will address key aspects of food safety, post-harvest washing efficiency and sustainable technologies for fruit and vegetable preservation.

After the reception of attendees (10:00 am) and the presentation of the day (10:45 am), the nutritionist and pharmacist Ana Molina will open the cycle of lectures with "You are what you communicate: nutritional and health properties of fruits and vegetables", a presentation on the importance of these foods in the diet and the need to properly communicate their benefits to promote responsible consumption.

At 11:30 am, Martín Mottura, researcher at Citrosol's Post-harvest Department, will present "Food safety: risks associated with post-harvest washing processes", where he will analyze the microbiological hazards derived from the use of water in washing processes and the recommendations of the European Food Safety Agency (EFSA) to mitigate these risks through effective water management.

Later, at 12:00 pm, Eva Petri, researcher at the National Center for Food Technology and Safety (CNTA), will give a presentation entitled "Peracetic Acid (Citrocide®): an effective and sustainable alternative for safe washing in fresh-cut products", in which she will explain how the use of this disinfectant is consolidating as a viable alternative to chlorinated compounds, offering greater food safety and environmental sustainability in the washing processes of minimally processed products.

After a coffee break and networking (12:30 pm), the day will continue with the presentation of Maria Reyes, Technical Sales Manager of Citrosol in the area of Almeria, who will present "Citrocide® System: minimizing losses and claims through hygienic washing". In her speech, she will highlight how Citrocide® technology has significantly reduced post-harvest spoilage and claims in products such as tomatoes and peppers, improving the quality and safety of fruit and vegetable exports.

The last presentation, at 13:30 h, will be given by Rebeca Ramos, head of Biotechnology and Bioprocesses of the Tecnova Technology Center, with the conference "Sustainable innovation in disinfection and preservation: keys to extend the life of fresh produce", focused on new technological strategies to improve the durability and quality of fresh food in a sustainable way.

The event will conclude at 2:00 p.m. with a cocktail and networking space, with the idea of promoting the exchange of experiences among attendees and strengthening collaboration between companies, research centers and industry entities.

Citrosol, commitment to sustainability and food safety

With this meeting, Citrosol reinforces its commitment to knowledge transfer and continuous improvement of post-harvest processes, promoting technological solutions that combine efficiency, sustainability and food safety.

"At Citrosol we believe that innovation must be accompanied by a firm commitment to quality and food safety. This symposium will be a space to share experiences and move towards safer and more responsible production," concludes Martin Mottura.
