BIOCARE is the first comprehensive range of products for the post-harvest treatment of citrus fruit certified for use in organic farming. It covers all the phases of the post-harvest process of citrus fruit with a fungistatic for decay control, a technological adjuvant for washing and a natural wax coating.

In other fruit and vegetable produce, post-harvest washing constitutes a critical point in the control of decay and food safety.

fungistatic for decay control:

FUNG-CID BIO BNa is a fungistatic specifically designed for the control of citrus decay to increase commercial life. This product has broad spectrum antimicrobial properties, making its use in postharvest treatments an effective tool in the control of decay in organic production.

 

Application is via aqueous medium in the drencher, by immersion or in a drencher online along with CITROSOL DS dosing equipment, a combination which maintains the initial efficacy of the treatment solutions unaltered.

Citrocide® PC and Citrocide® Plus formulations are broad spectrum biocides that control not just fungi, but also bacteria, yeasts, viruses and spores. Its decomposition products are simply water and acetic acid, environmentally friendly substances, harmless to humans. Both Citrocide® PC and Citrocide®Plus are authorized by AECOSAN as technological adjuvants and are certified for use in organic farming.

 

With citrus fruit, the CITROCIDE® SYSTEM acts as a “firewall”, effectively converting the washing machine into a genuine critical control point to avoid cross contamination, improve food safety and reduce surface contamination avoiding produce losses through decay.

 

The CITROCIDE® SYSTEM is equipped with software that can log and export the relevant dosing and control process information, ensuring detailed traceability. The continual measurement of the concentration of Citrocide® in the washing water and the automatic dosing of this allows us to guarantee the disinfection of the solution and its recirculation, drastically reducing the consumption of water and product, thus contributing to a reduction in the industry’s water footprint.

CITROSOL® AK BIO UE gives a natural shine and affords excellent control over weight loss. The appearance of CITROSOL® AK BIO UE waxed organic citrus fruit is comparable to that of conventional waxed citrus fruit.

 

Due to its composition, with the total absence of any ingredient of animal origin, CITROSOL® AK BIO UE also meets the requirements of vegan consumers.

Abundant scientific literature establishes how weight loss control gives the fruit protection against rind disorders and pitting caused by chilling injury and against rind breakdown. The excellent control over the weight loss of CITROSOL® AK BIO UE, and its effect on respiration, prevent the fruit from aging so quickly.

In other fruit and vegetables (tomato, pepper, avocado, peeled garlic, sweet potato, persimmon, mango, etc.), as well as in the minimally processed food industry, the CITROCIDE® SYSTEM acts as a “firewall”, turning the washing machine into a Critical Control Point (CCP) to avoid cross contamination, improve food safety and reduce surface contamination, thus avoiding decay losses. In the minimally processed food industry, the CITROCIDE® SYSTEM obviates the need to use chlorinated disinfectants to maintain wash water in a hygienic condition and, furthermore, as shown in Figure 1, performing a pre-cut disinfection of the fruit’s surface greatly increases commercial life.
